Laser Hair Removal

What is Laser Hair Removal?

By exposing the hair to pulses of light, this procedure destroys the hair at the follicles to provide long-lasting results. This procedure is great for unwanted hair on the face, legs, bikini area, underarms, chest, back or forearms.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The pulse of focused laser energy is attracted to the pigment in the hair shaft, which generates heat. This heat causes trauma to the hair follicle. With repeat treatments, the hair becomes finer, thinner, and lighter in color.

What to Expect at Renovus Medical Spa

The laser technician will discuss your recent medical history and sun exposure to determine the best treatment protocol for your skin type. Patients should shave the area to be treated within 48 hours of their treatment. Long hair can result in undesirable trauma to the surrounding skin. The skin is then cleaned, and the patient is provided with protective eyewear. The laser pulses feel like warm rubber band snaps and are done in quick succession. Each treatment takes from 5 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Afterwards, a cool mineral spray and/or after sun serum are applied to the area. The hair will slowly shed over the next few days to weeks and return finer and lighter each time.

Anticipated Results

Laser hair removal treatment times are up to 75% faster than other hair removal processes, and the results are longer lasting. Hair comes back finer, thinner, and shorter after each scheduled treatment. There is no downtime, although sun exposure should be avoided. Because hair grows at different cycles, about 30% of follicles come to the surface at a time – so 6 to 10 sessions are recommended about 4 weeks apart to see the most significant results. Results are long-lasting; however, touch-ups may be needed to maintain results.
